Dance Like a Kid!

Turn on some fast-paced music and go with the flow. No inhibitions or pre-programmed dance moves. Just wiggle and jiggle to your heart's content. That's what my son and I just did to two songs - it's all that we could handle after walking around for six straight hours. But we had to work off that Ghiradelli ice cream from the store in Downtown Disney. (I guess we know what my new year's resolution will be.)

Crawl On All Fours

In our hotel room, my son decided to crawl around on the floor back and forth. I kept fussing for him to get off of the floor and finish putting on his pajamas. Of course, I was ignored at first. I went to tell him again, but he was having so much fun, I decided to join him. He flew by me so fast, I thought I was in a Chucky movie. I couldn't keep up so I know if I did it for about 10 minutes, I would get a workout. I lasted about 30 seconds. But I'll try again once I finish my bag of blue raspberry cotton candy (because I have to work off these calories - and the butter pecan ice cream, chocolate cake and egg nog yogurt from earlier). What?! I'm on vacation. I know. It's no excuse to slack. Ok, don't bend my arm. I'll add 30 minutes of dancing and some push ups. Up next... jumping jacks.

Arm Swing Like a Kid

Do you remember swinging both arms in opposite directions so hard and so fast, you thought you would take flight? That is what my son did today - while we were waiting in line no less. Embarrassed or not, it seemed like so much fun and it reminded me of such wonderful and innocent times. So, of course, what better time to try it once more? Why not? Few extra calories burned and loads of fun pretending to be a helicopter again. Just don't throw your arm out of your socket.

Skip Like A Kid!

Skipping is so much fun! I love it. Now, this is something I can do often, burn some calories and have fun with without hurting myself too bad. This is very helpful after a very filling holiday meal of pies, cakes and ice cream. LOL

Jump Like a Frog!

As I am sitting here chowing down on a Subway chocolate chip cookie and feeling the soreness of my thigh muscles from my less than 30 second run, I am thinking of ways to power up these unchallenged muscles. Earlier today at my job, I had to tape down some cords so that people wouldn't trip over them. I was in a squatted position and I gave a little hop to the side as I moved down the cord. Yeah, I know, it made my legs hurt more than it was when I awoke this morning. But isn't that the point. I burned a few extra calories today that I wouldn't have normally. So today, I will purposely go jump like a frog. I am aiming for three in a row. (SMH-we'll see about that).

Race!

So, before doing my first half marathon, I was not a runner. In fact, running with my child for one full, long, painstaking block was agonizing. And at the end, I was gasping for air. But before I could complete those 13.1 miles, I had to start with one baby step, adding a few more feet each time I ran. Constantly repeating, just one more block, just one more block helped pushed me along.

Well, that was a couple months ago and I haven't ran since. In fact, this morning, I was running to catch the bus, merely a couple blocks away and I felt like dying once I got on the bus. Talk about your flashback.

So today, I will race my son, or myself, for one block. Shouldn't be that bad, right?
